Just like individuals who live in standard homes, those who have manufactured homes often aspire to make improvements to their dwelling. To remodel or make improvements to a manufactured home there are only a couple of things you will likely need to remember. Wall studs and floor joists are usually not the same size as in a conventional home and the exterior is probably made out of metal.
If you are wanting to do a serious overhaul, moving a wall might prove to be too challenging. With manufactured homes often having wood paneling instead of drywall, it’s possible you’ll see debris where the wall once was placed. If you do this you’ll likely need to replace the whole piece of wood on the ceiling instead of making a simple repair if it was made of drywall.
Other than those couple of differences, making upgrades or remodeling a manufactured home is pretty much the same as a traditional home. You only have to understand what you’re getting into before you start pulling out boards.
Most kitchen cabinets are fastened to the walls of a manufactured home much like in a old fashioned home and bathroom and kitchen plumbing fixtures can be changed the same way. Not surprisingly, an important advantage to remodeling a manufactured home is the fact all utilities are located under the home.
